BOSTON – Cape Wind has outlasted a decade of government review, a slew of court brawls and fierce opposition from mariners, fishermen, Indian tribes and Kennedys just to win the right to sell its wind-fueled electricity.

Now, all it needs are customers.

Last month, the nation’s first offshore wind farm nailed down its first buyer when the Massachusetts Department of Public Utility approved a deal that sees Cape Wind selling half its power to National Grid, the state’s largest electric utility.

Delivery of the wind turbines is expected to begin in mid-2007, and upon completion of the projects, EMG will hold more than 400 MW of Suzlon wind turbine capacity in the United States.

Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation, the North America arm of Suzlon Energy Limited, has signed a repeat order with Duke Energy, of Charlotte, North Carolina, to provide 20 units of the S88-2.1 megawatt wind turbine. With this order, the total supply portfolio to Duke Energy increases to 130MW.

The project located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, is named the Silver Sage Windpower Project, and is adjacent to an existing wind farm owned by Duke Energy – also supplied by the Suzlon S88-2.1 MW turbine.

The demand for wind energy is INFINITE !!!
Very soon there is going to be some sort of a global legislation calling for a ban on thermal coal based and also gas based power plants. Thereby implying that a substantial capitalization currently deployed in companies like NTPC, Reliance Power, TATA Power, Adani power etc will shift to wind energies like Suzlon and Indowind Energy. Coal based power generation plants are adding to carbon emissions, adding to ash pollution and also depleting the already scarce water recourses.

DETROIT, Mich. — Gov. Jennifer Granholm gave the keynote address at this year’s wind energy conference and took the opportunity to announce over $15 million in new Recovery Act funding for the state to be directed towards renewable energy. “We are not just content in Michigan to be making wind turbines,” Granholm said at the Cobo Center, located in downtown Detroit. “Michigan is going to be the place to solve the problems for the wind industry.”

One problem she touched on was the “reliability issue” of wind turbine gearboxes: she said that Merrill Tool and Machine of Merrill, Mich. is working on a solution.
