Two years and a lot of hard work later, a wind farm that now generates electricity into the Golden Valley Electric Association grid is taking shape on a knoll near Delta Junction.

Alaska Environmental Power, LLC has one wind generator up and running, and has set the foundation for another. The generator site is northwest of Delta.

“We are getting ready to install another wind generator that is nine times larger than the one that is running now,” said Mike Craft developer and managing partner at Alaska Environmental. …

The only explanation for their hysterical attacks is that they’re afraid that when John McCain and Sarah Palin are in the White House, Barack Obama’s nearly $1 billion in earmark spending will stop dead in its tracks,” Mr. Rogers said.

… paper is ‘High-Frequency Field Measurements and Time Dependant Computational Modelling for Wind Turbine Siting’.

The work took advantage of high frequency wind data made available by the North Harris Trust on a highly complex site in the Outer Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland. Spectral analyses were carried out on this dataset and showed the existence of complex wind flow phenomena that changed rapidly over very short time scales, including turbulence and direction veer. CFD modelling was carried out using the VENTOS CFD wind flow model in time-dependent mode, a feature not readily available in many CFD software packages available on the market. The CFD …

The failure of Britains wind farms to produce electricity in the extreme cold will cost billions of pounds, create an economic crisis and lead to blackouts, leading industrialists have warned.

To cover up the ineffectiveness of wind farms the Government will be forced to build emergency back-up power plants, the cost of which will be paid by industry and consumers.

Jeremy Nicholson, director of the Energy Intensive Users Group, which represents major companies employing hundreds of thousands of workers in the steel, glass, pottery, paper and chemical industries, said the failure of wind power had …

… being generated as the Idaho Legislature considers whether to impose a two-year moratorium on new wind energy projects. The House State Affairs Committee threw up its hands Friday, deciding to wait at least three days to vote on the question.
The state is heavily involved, since years ago it granted a 6 percent sales tax rebate to renewable energy companies, and required utilities such as Idaho Power Company to purchase the energy produced by the newcomers. Idaho Power dislikes that, claiming wind energy can affect the system’s reliability, and add significant costs to its customers. It wants to stop any extension of the program, which is no small deal since sales tax rebates …

Global warming won’t harm wind energy production, climate models predict

The production of wind energy in the U.S. over the next 30-50 years will be largely unaffected by upward changes in global temperature, say a pair of Indiana University Bloomington scientists who analyzed output from several regional climate models to assess future wind patterns in America’s lower 48 states. Their report — the first analysis of long-term stability of wind over the U.S. — appears in this week’s Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition.

“The greatest consistencies in wind density we found …

Chinese-Made Turbines to Fill U.S. Wind Farm

By REBECCA SMITH

A Chinese wind-turbine company, with financing help from Beijing, has struck a deal to be the exclusive supplier to one of the largest wind-farm developments in the U.S., a sign of how Chinese firms are aggressively capitalizing on America’s clean-energy push.

The 36,000-acre development in West Texas would receive $1.5 billion in financing through Export-Import Bank of China. Shenyang Power Group, a five-month-old alliance, would supply the project with 240 of its 2.5-megawatt wind turbines, among the biggest made in the world.
