SPAIN’S largest wind-turbine manufacturer, Gamesa, has announced they are to set up shop in Britain.

The news comes as David Cameron has declared the UK intends to become a world leader in offshore wind energy.

The British Prime Minister said in a statement: “We’re committing public money to ensure we have the infrastructure that attracts major manufacturers to come here and build their offshore wind turbines.”

And he announced the government may invest as much as 60 million pounds to achieve their goal.

The Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council gave its approval of the site of a wind farm billed to be the largest in the world.

The Shepherd’s Flat Wind Farm, which would span Gilliam and Morrow counties in north-central Oregon, is proposed to have 303 wind turbines with a peak capacity of 909 megawatts — instantly doubling the state’s current wind-generated capacity of 889 megawatts, making it one of the largest wind farms in the country.

Deal to locate wind turbine maintenance facility in Oregon Wind turbine maintenance and repair company Windpower Innovations, Inc., has finalized an agreement to set up its first full-service heavy-lift facility in the state of Oregon.

The company has agreed an assistance package with the state State of Oregon’s Business Development Officer, Dennie Houle, and the City of Astoria Mayor, Willis L. Van Dusen.

It will see a facility set up to provide a range of support services for some of the largest wind turbines on the market, from one-megawatt machines to 5MW turbines.

Wind News Oregon utility in talks to buy 500MW wind project

Northern Oregon is the center of an explosion in wind energy developments

Oregon utility Portland General Electric Company is in the frame to buy a large wind project in development in the north of the state.

It is in talks with wind developer Renewable Energy Systems Americas, Inc., with regard to the Rock Creek Wind Farm being planned for a site in Gilliam County.

Portland-based PGE has exclusive rights to purchase the project, an agreement that runs out at the end of 2010.
