Mohegan Sun History
Mohegan Sun opened on October 12, 1996. Their new Casino of the Sky opened on September 25th, 2001. Mohegan Sun, while seemingly dwarfed by neighboring Foxwoods still ranks as the second largest casino in the world.
The centerpiece of Casino of the Sky is a massive Wombi Rock – a three story crystal mountain that was built out of 12,000 pieces of onyx rock. It is truly a beautiful sight to behold.
Rooms at Mohegan Sun
Mohegan Sun holds a prestigious AAA Four Diamond award. Their main hotel tower is 34 stories tall and has 1200 luxury rooms and suites. Amenities include, pools, golf courses, concierge service, finely tiled mosaic bathrooms, fully stocked bars, internet access, room service and all the great stuff you’d find at a Wynn or Venetian. We suggest the Guest Suites highly.
Mohegan Sun Restaurants & Dining
Mohegan Sun has a massive array of dining options. Literally 40 or so restaurants (including two buffets). What most excites us? Smokehouse burger at 50′s retro burger joint Johnny Rockets. Awwwyeah. There are so many dining options its silly for us to list them here… just go there and enjoy!
Lucky Vibes at Mohegan Sun
Massive, elegant, beautiful, yet intimate. Mohegan Sun is the standard by which all Tribal casinos should be measured. Layout not only accentuates gaming, but artistry and design as well. This is a great joint.

I have absolutely loved this place every time i have gone there. You just get a nice “relaxing” vibe when you walk in – kind of like walking into a serene outdoor experience. The games are located well enough inside that you have a buffer between the games and from outside or from the hotel. You could stroll the paths and just take in the well designed construction, from the waterfall to the “lashed poles” that make up the watch tower, to the onyx tower and everything in between. It is like a chic design of a reservation with a modern design.Food – you have to go to both Michael Jordan restaurants – the sports cafe is great for lunch, or for hanging out
pt2 – The Michael Jordan steakhouse has probably the best steak i have ever had, and the sides feed 2-3 people (mmmmm…one pound baked potato). The pit bosses and other workers are very friendly
